CLOSING DATE: 15th January 2013

There are many different paths to the right career.

If you’re focused on a career at a firm like ours and further academic study is for you, then you should think about the EY Degree.

The EY Degree provides a path into university studies, a paid placement in Assurance and a professional qualification – all thanks to our unique partnership with Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) and ICAS. You could even go straight to a graduate job offer.

As well as promising fast progress to a professional qualification, the EY Degree also offers a first year bursary to help you get started at university, plus 18-months paid work experience. A four-year accountancy degree course, you’ll study for five of your ICAS examinations during your degree and another two more during your work experience, before completing your final three exams when you join us after graduation. It’s a great way to start your business career with Ernst & Young.

Your start point
Applications to the EY Degree are now open. The closing date for applications is 15th January 2013.

Your development
The EY Degree opens up a path that you wouldn’t find with any other degree course. LUMS is a highly respected place to study business. What’s more, you’ll have the chance to put what you learn on your course to the test in the real world of business, and make useful business contacts along the way.

The course structure
Your 18 months paid work experience with Ernst & Young will be split into three placements:

Your first year is like most other degree courses, with three compulsory modules covering accounting and finance, economics, statistics and computing.

Your second year is a mixture of advanced modules, plus a three-month placement with Ernst & Young which runs from January to March.

Your third year is a year-long placement with Ernst & Young. You’ll be doing demanding work, and you’ll study towards two ICAS examinations.

Your fourth year is back at LUMS, where you’ll be able to choose some of the modules you wish to study. You’ll also do a final three-month placement from January to March.

The work experience
As part of the EY Degree, you’ll spend a total of 18 months on placement at an Ernst & Young UK office. The experience is valuable: you’ll play a key role in our audit business, working with clients and people at all levels of the company.

It’ll give you a great understanding of life in a professional services firm, leaving you well-prepared for the start of your career.

During the one-year placement you’ll sit two of the four Test of Professional Skills ICAS examinations, and complete a written dissertation.

With offices dotted around the UK, there’ll be some exciting choices to make about where to spend your year away from LUMS. During your placement you’ll play a key role in an audit team, working directly with clients and alongside people at all levels in our company. If things go well you could get a job offer in your third year – leaving you free to concentrate on your degree.

Your future
When you finish University, you’ll leave with more than just a BSc (Hons) in Accounting, Auditing and Finance. You’ll have a head start in business – with the skills to progress fast in a world-class professional services firm like Ernst & Young. Not to mention professional exam passes too. In addition to your degree you’ll join the second year of our graduate programme – making faster progress towards professional qualification (up to 15 months earlier) and putting you on course to achieve your potential.

Entry qualifications
First things first – you’ll need Grade B or higher in GCSE Mathematics and English Language and a predicted AAA/AAB in your A Levels, or equivalent (not including General Studies or A2 re-sits).

Applying
Starting your journey towards the EY Degree is the same as any other course. Visit the UCAS website to apply and enter course code NN43 or search for BSc/AccE&Y to find the EY Degree. Once you’ve applied, LUMS will screen your UCAS application and you’ll be asked to complete an online Ernst & Young application form and take an online ability test. You’ll also be invited to an assessment centre at our London office. If you do well and meet the degree requirements, we’ll make you an offer.
